Why Do I Love Louisville?

I loved Louisville long before it was cool, and long before it was voted the fifth best place to live and the number one place to raise kids.

What I love most about Louisville are the people: the folks who live in the neighborhoods, who work in the local businesses and restaurants, and who provide city services. There is such kindness, familiarity, and courtesy here. Here's an experience I had in Louisville last October.

I was riding my bike last year and had a nasty altercation with a big blue trash bin. The trash bin won and I found myself semi-conscious in the middle of Main Street. A lady on a motorbike stopped to give me emergency medical attention and a couple in a spotless Cadillac put my greasy bike in their trunk and eased my greasy body into their immaculate back seat and took me home with no questions asked except "Are you sure you're alright?".

I love the small-town feel.

I love the services and amenities:

• The Library
• The Rec Center
• The Fire Department
• Ambulance Services - yes, I had to use them once and they were great!
• The Extensive Trail System
• The Parks
• The Open Space - wish we had even more of it!
• The Restaurants - especially the unique family-owned restaurants in Old Town
